Singer Bebe Rexha was brutally struck in the face by a cell phone this past weekend, forcing her to seek immediate medical attention.
The 33-year-old was performing at The Rooftop in New York City on Sunday when a phone was violently launched at her during her set. A now viral video captured the incident, showing the moment the device made contact with her face, sending Rexha to the ground in pain. Her security staff quickly rushed to the stage and ushered her away. She was taken to the hospital, where she had to receive three stitches for her injuries.Â
Another video shows security yelling at a man, later identified as Nicolas Malvagna. The 27-year-old New Jersey man was escorted from the building and subsequently arrested. He has since been charged with assault.Â
Rexha was performing as part of her Best F’n Night Of My Life tour, which was on its 13th stop when the attack took place. Off stage, the Grammy-nominated star has been the constant target of online bullying recently due to her weight. It’s unclear if the cell phone throwing was the doing of an overzealous fan attempting to get a customized picture or the byproduct of the internet trolling Rexha has endured. Either way, Malvagna is being held accountable for his shocking actions.Â
It’s unclear if Rexha will continue the tour. She has not yet commented on the incident.Â
