Beyoncé is expected to appear alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at a campaign rally in Houston this Friday, according to three sources familiar with the plans. The Washington Post reports that the Houston native is also anticipated to perform. This marks a rare political engagement for Beyoncé, who has previously performed at Barack Obama’s 2008 inauguration and a Hillary Clinton rally in 2016.
Beyoncé’s presence comes as Harris secures endorsements from several influential celebrities. Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and others have publicly backed the vice president as she intensifies her campaign efforts. While Texas isn’t projected to be a battleground in the presidential race, Harris’ rally is aimed at boosting support for Democratic Senate candidate Colin Allred, who is locked in a tight race with incumbent Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
Harris campaign spokesperson Ian Sams also confirmed that country music legend Willie Nelson and Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, will join the rally. The event will focus on key issues, including abortion rights, with Harris expected to address Texas’ strict six-week abortion ban. The vice president has been vocal about women’s rights on the campaign trail, often highlighting stories of women who have had to leave Texas to seek reproductive care.
One of Beyoncé’s hits, “Freedom,” has become Harris’ campaign anthem, frequently playing at the start of her rallies. The song, which Harris has embraced as part of her message, was also used during Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, symbolizing the fight for equality and justice.
With less than two weeks until Election Day, Harris is crisscrossing the country, making her final pitch to voters. She’s set to appear in Georgia, a crucial battleground state, and Pennsylvania, another key swing state, as part of her closing campaign efforts. Next week, Harris will deliver a significant speech in Washington, D.C., at the same location where former President Donald Trump gave his address on January 6, 2021, before the Capitol riot. In her speech, she’s expected to argue for turning the page on Trump’s leadership and drawing a stark contrast between a Harris administration and a potential second Trump presidency.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump continues his campaign, touting his own roster of celebrity supporters, including Hulk Hogan, Jason Aldean, and Kid Rock.
