Beyoncé Introduces Team USA During the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony [Video]

Many people thought Kamala Harris’s campaign video featuring Beyoncé’s “Freedom” was impressive, but Queen Bey has cashed another check by introducing Team USA at the Olympic Games.

On Friday, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games kicked off with an opening ceremony. During NBCUniversal’s primetime coverage, Beyoncé introduced the team, shocking many viewers. The 2-minute video features a remix of Beyoncé’s “YA YA” single from her Country Cowboy album and showcases some of the athletes representing the country.

“Hello, girls,” the 32-time Grammy winner said to the women’s gymnastics team, who replied, “Hello Beyoncé.” The athletes, including Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Sunisa “Sunnie” Lee, and Hezly Rivera, wore navy blue bodysuits. Meanwhile, the men’s gymnastics team, including Fred Richard, Brody Malone, Paul Juda, Asher Hong, and Stephen Nedoroscik, also got some shine in the clip. After Beyoncé said, “Hello fellas,” they quickly responded, “You’re pretty swell.”

Queen Bey then said, “Everybody enjoying the show? Oui oui, Paris. We snappin’.” She added, “We wanna welcome you to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games! Ah! On behalf of Team USA, we ‘gon make it do what it do, YA YA! Put them hands together!”

Other athletes featured in the video included Caeleb Dressel, Sha’Carri Richardson, LeBron James, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Noah Lyles, Katie Ledecky, and many more, while Beyoncé said, “Get a look at America, y’all. These hopes and dreams, these superstars that represent us.”

Additionally, Beyoncé provided context about some of the professional athletes playing in this year’s games as they flashed across the screen. As the video closed, a montage of the qualifiers appeared, showing the athletes competing in their sport before solidifying their spot on Team USA.

“That pride and that joy, that’s what gets me about this team. And that’s what makes me believe in this team,” she added. “And that’s why I can’t wait to see what they pull off over these next 16 days. America, give it up for Team USA, the very best of who we are.”

Team USA’s official Instagram account has dubbed the surprise introduction as “#Beylympics.” Prior to the introduction, the River Seine was transformed into a stage as approximately 90 boats carried thousands of athletes during the opening ceremony.
