Big Boi of OutKast is grieving the loss of his uncle, Remoin Patton, who was shot and killed during a road rage incident on June 16th in Atlanta.
Authorities have since arrested 19-year-old Jabyrion Crumbley, who turned himself in and now faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession during a felony. He’s currently being held in the Fulton County Jail without bond.
Police say the deadly altercation occurred when Patton got into a verbal exchange while attempting a turn. Crumbley allegedly fired a gun, hitting Patton in the back. After being shot, Patton’s vehicle crashed into a vacant home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Days later, Janisha Crumbley was also arrested for allegedly helping to conceal the crime. She was later released. Police haven’t confirmed the exact relationship between Jabyrion and Janisha.
Big Boi shared his pain with WSB-TV, saying, “Everybody who knows Uncle Moonie heart aches. He wasn’t just ‘My’ Uncle, he was Unk to all that met him. A moment of rage has totally pierced the heart of my family forever. May Uncle Moonie’s soul rest in peace.”
On Instagram, Big Boi posted a heartfelt tribute video, captioned: “Long Live Uncle Moonie … Miss ya UNC. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
Remoin Patton, affectionately known as “Uncle Moonie,” was 62.
