On the heels of the release of Lil Wayne’s long-awaited, “The Carter V” album, the rapper’s longtime friend, father-figure and mentor was named as part of an investigation into the 2015 shooting of his tour bus.
Now, just three days later, new information has been revealed, directly linking Birdman to the crime, as the D.A. considers possible charges.
Initially, officials launched an investigation into Birdman’s involvement in the shooting, amid allegations that he orchestrated the 2015 plot to shoot up the bus.
Though the shooter, Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, was sentenced to 20 years – 10 behind bars and 10 on probation – for pulling the trigger, both Birdman and Young Thug were linked for their involvement leading up to, and after the shooting.
In fact, as part of a new development in the investigation, a phone call between Birdman and the accused shooter has been leaked.
“It’s time for you to come out here and get your money, man…You done did everything you could do, boss,” Birdman is heard saying on the call. “It’s an eye-opener, bruh. Strictly business, man.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In addition to Birdman’s call, it’s been revealed – as part of a lawsuit filed by Alvin Lewis, the driver of Wayne’s tour bus – that officials have secured phone records that show Thug called Winfrey eight times in the 12 minutes before the shooting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The D.A. has yet to decide on charges.
