A 27-year-old black man was shot and killed Friday night in Atlanta at a Wendy’s drive-thru line.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, police were called after receiving calls about a man sleeping in his vehicle at the drive-thru, which prompted drivers to go around the vehicle.
Rayshard Brooks was given a sobriety test, which he reportedly failed, according to GBI.
“After failing the test, the officers attempted to place the male subject into custody,” GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said. “During the arrest, the male subject resisted and a struggle ensued. The officer deployed a Taser.”
Brooks was able to take the taser away from the police before he was shot and killed.
In a video circulating social media, two officers were struggling with Brooks. As the victim got up and ran, he was then fatally shot.
Rayshard Brooks was taken to a hospital, where he died after surgery.
GBI states that an officer was treated for minor injuries but later released.
