After more than a year of legal twists, Boosie has officially pleaded guilty to one federal count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The rapper appeared in court on Tuesday, August 26th, and is set for sentencing on Friday, November 21st.
Boosie’s case began in May 2023, when San Diego police arrested him after spotting a gun in an Instagram Live video. A helicopter tracked his vehicle, and officers found two firearms during a traffic stop. Initially facing state charges, Boosie expected probation, but the case was dismissed and picked up by federal prosecutors.
In 2024, the case was again dismissed after a court ruled it was unconstitutional to ban felons with nonviolent drug charges from owning guns. Boosie walked out of the courthouse in tears.
“This situation made me see who was down with me and who wasn’t,” he said. “Ninety percent of people thought I was going to prison, but God had a different plan.”
That plan changed again when a larger court overturned the ruling. Boosie took to Twitter, saying, “JUST ACCEPTED A PLEA FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON MY GUN CASE… I’M TIRED OF FIGHTING.”
He added, “TALKED TO MY FAMILY N THIS IS THE RIGHT DECISION… SAY A PRAYER FOR YA BOY.”
Boosie now awaits sentencing, with prosecutors recommending 24 months behind bars. However, the charge carries a maximum 15-year penalty.
