Back in June, boxing champion, #JermellCharlo, took on Austin Trout in Los Angeles, California to defend his WBC light middleweight world title and solidify a 31-0 record by majority decision.
However, less than a month before Charlo’s championship bout, the boxer was arrested and charged with one felony count of domestic violence.
The incident occurred “on or about” May 17 after an argument his then-girlfriend, Jazmyne Olison, turned physical.
According to the grand jury indictment issued on June 19 and obtained by ESPN, Charlo reportedly choked Olison and forced her against a fence, floor and railing, before allegedly pulling her hair.

“[Charlo] committed the said offense by intentionally, knowingly and recklessly impeding [Olison’s] normal breathing and circulation of blood by applying pressure to [her] throat and neck and by blocking [her] nose and mouth,” the indictment read.

The following day, Charlo was arrested and booked on one felony charge of assault on a family or house member with intent to impede circulation. He then posted a $20,000 bail, and was released.

However, in a statement released by his lawyer, the boxer denied the charges, claiming the evidence didn’t support the allegations.

“Jermell is not guilty and is looking forward to his day in court,” Mike Howard said. “The evidence in this case is clear and conclusive and doesn’t support these allegations. In this day and age, it’s so important to let all the fact come out before making judgements. We look forward to those facts coming out in court.”
