Singer Brandy Norwood is slated to join ABC’s music drama “Queens,” which will follow a 40+ rap band’s journey to regaining success.
The pilot, which will be written and executive produced by Zahir McGhee, follows the story of four women who reunite to revive their 90s hip-hop group, Nasty Bitches. Brandy will portray the role of Naomi, who goes by her stage name Xplicit Lyrics. While Naomi is a musical genius, her time in the group only afforded her gigs in bars in retirement. Once the women come back together, Naomi will come face to face with the bandmate who stole her man from her back in the day, and drama soon ensues.
While there is no date for the series premiere, Pepi Sonuga, Naturi Naughton, and Eve have also been cast to join the series. Brandy and the “Gotta Man” rapper will contribute original music to the series.
Sabrina Wind will serve as an executive producer, and Tim Story will direct and executive produce the show.
Brandy is no stranger to television. She starred in “Moesha” for six seasons from 1996. She starred in “Zoe Ever After,” which aired for one season, and held a recurring role in “The Game.”
