Victoria’s Secret has hired their first-ever transgender model.
22-year-old Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, announced the news with a behind the scenes photo at a shoot with Victoria’s Secret, along with the caption ”Backstage click @VSPink.”
The move comes less than a year after the lingerie company came under fire for a recent interview— in which Ed Razek (Chief Marketing Officer of VS’s parent company) said transgender and plus-size models shouldn’t be included in the company’s famed television fashion show because “the show is a fantasy.”
Razek later apologized for his remarks which he said: “came across as insensitive.”
Sampaio is also the first transgender model to grace any edition of Vogue magazine when she posed for Vogue Paris in February 2017.
