The infamous “Brick Lady” has been released on bond after her arrest for a high-profile theft.
Roda Osman turned herself in to the police on Tuesday, following accusations of creating a fraudulent GoFundMe account that raised over $40,000 last year. She faced theft charges for falsely claiming on the GoFundMe page that a man had struck her in the face with a brick after she refused to give him her phone number. However, investigators discovered through surveillance footage that the man had actually hit Osman with a water bottle, and only after she had assaulted him first. She was accused of fabricating this story to solicit donations.
Osman was initially supposed to surrender on January 18th but failed to do so on that date. After finally turning herself in to Harris County officials, she appeared in court the same day and posted a $10,000 bond. In an unexpected development, investigators found that Osman had allegedly executed a similar scam years earlier, with a nearly identical story. It is not clear whether she received any donations in the previous case, but in her most recent GoFundMe, launched in September 2023, she did not receive any of the funds.
Osman gained notoriety as the “Brick Lady” on social media after she posted a video showing her swollen face, claiming a brick caused the injury. However, prosecutors assert that it was actually a water bottle that caused the swelling.
Osman is scheduled to return to court on March 5th.
