During the Atlanta Dream’s 83-75 victory over the Dallas Wings on Saturday, May 24th, Brittney Griner made headlines not just for her performance but for a fiery exchange with referees that interrupted a live halftime interview.

As Griner began speaking with CBS Sports, she noticed the referees walking behind her. Abruptly, she turned away from the microphone to confront them, visibly upset over what she perceived as missed calls in the first half. Pointing to her arm, she expressed her frustration before shouting, “Be f**king better!”
The moment quickly circulated on social media, with fans and commentators reacting to Griner’s candid display of emotion. Upon returning to the interview, Griner offered a brief apology, saying, “Sorry, y’all,” before proceeding with the discussion.
Despite the incident, Griner contributed significantly to the Dream’s win, recording 15 points and eight rebounds. This season, she’s averaging 15 points and seven rebounds per game.
The WNBA has rules limiting player interactions with referees during halftime, and Griner could face a fine of up to $200 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
This episode adds to Griner’s eventful journey in the WNBA, marking her first season with the Atlanta Dream after an 11-year tenure with the Phoenix Mercury. Her career was notably interrupted in 2022 due to a nearly year-long detention in Russia on drug charges.
