Last night, history was made during the Indiana Fever‘s 92-75 victory over the Seattle Storm as Caitlin Clark broke the rookie assists record of 238, previously set by Ticha Penicheiro in 1998. The game was a close contest until the fourth quarter, where Clark displayed her passion in what was an uncharacteristically challenging game for her.
Clark missed seven three-pointers throughout the game, and her visible frustration boiled over in the fourth quarter, leading to a questionable technical foul. Up by four in the third quarter, Clark’s frustration continued to mount. After missing another three-pointer, she smacked the backstop in exasperation.

Clark is now just two technical fouls away from a suspension. Despite the setback, she expressed gratitude for the technical foul after the game. “I got a technical for basically being mad at myself because I missed the three, and I went and hit the backboard, and [the referee] told me it was disrespectful to the game of basketball,” Clark shared with the media. She recalled receiving similar technical fouls in college, attributing them to her competitive nature.

“It had nothing to do with my team, the refereeing, or the other team. It was just because I’m a competitor, and I felt like I should have been making more shots. But I think [the technical] fired me up to continue to play a lot harder. I thought we got a lot better after that. So I want to thank him for that.”
The Fever outscored the Storm 33-17 in the fourth quarter, securing a decisive win as they push for a playoff spot this season. Once the final nail was in the coffin, Clark celebrated with the crowd in front of the Storm bench. The celebration seemed a bit over the top, and the Storm did not appreciate it. Some fans have criticized Storm guard Skylar Diggins-Smith for appearing to intentionally try to bump Clark, the number one overall pick.
