California Woman Pretends To Be A Social Worker In Plot To Kidnap Newborn Baby

On Tuesday, Sara Orozco Magana was charged with felony kidnapping after she was caught posing as a social worker in an attempt to steal a newborn baby.

According to FOX LA, the 38-year old woman was officially charged with one felony count of attempt of kidnapping of a child under the age of 14 and one felony count of attempted taking of a minor from a parent or legal custodian. If convicted, Magana could face up to 7 and a half years in a California prison.

Police say that on June 7, Magana allegedly knocked on the door of a Santa Ana home pretending to be an employee of Orange County social services. ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €

Apparently, she was trying to convince the mother to hand over her one-week-old infant. According to reports, Magana made up a story that doctors accused the mother of abuse, but couldnā€™t provide any identification to support the claim.Ā

Magana threatened to call the police if the woman didnā€™t give her the baby, but the woman grew suspicious, and her sister began recording the incident.

The footage was released to the public by the Santa Ana Police Department in an attempt to find the woman responsible. Magana turned herself in and was arrested, but was released from jail after posting $100,000 bail just a few days later

ā€œThe safety of our children is paramount,” said District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “The Orange County District Attorneys Office would like to remind parents, especially the parents of newborns, to remain vigilant about anyone who is around your child.”

Magana is set to be arraigned on July 8.
