Cam Newton was back on his podcast “4th and 1,” to answer fans who urged him to give credit to Brock Purdy for making it to the Super Bowl. Cam did not mince his words and explained that if Brock was a game-changer, he would easily be the best player to play offense on the team.
“I’ve never said that Brock Purdy was trash,” Newton claimed. “What I did say is ‘Brock Purdy is a game manager.’ That’s not hate, that’s just what I feel to be facts. But I still reserve the right to say this, to be labeled a game changer, Brock Purdy has to be the best player on the offensive side of the ball,” he continued.
Cam confirmed that his former teammate, Christian McCaffrey, was the best player on the 49ers offense. He also stuck to his pre-playoff claims about the Iowa State product.
“I ain’t recanting sh*t and if you really want to just be honest, if you add in the defensive talent and you add in the offensive talent Brock Purdy is the tenth best player on this team. Did he have a great game? Yes. Is he playing out of his mind? Yes. Is he a quarterback that’s hot? Yes. But he’s still the tenth-best player on his team,” Newton said.
It’s worth noting that McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Trent Williams are all highly-regarded players in the NFL. McCaffrey is widely considered the best running back in the league, Samuel is a top receiver, and Williams is regarded as the best left tackle. In comparison, Brock Purdy’s performance is not as impressive, both in terms of stats and overall observations.
As the 49ers prepare for the Super Bowl, many people may favor Kansas City to win due to the quarterbacks.
