Car owners in Atlanta say people have been drilling holes through their gas tanks to steal gas right after filling up.
Police are looking into complaints from several people who say thieves have been stealing their gas right after they fill their cars up at a gas station.
It’s kind of ridiculous,” one person who identified as Tyler said.“I’ve got almost $2,000 worth of damages, not just in the gas tank, but also damage the fuel pump, which is a pretty big issue,” WCSC 5 reports. The news outlet reports the thieves are using a drill to enter cars’ gas tanks, letting the gas spill out and catching it with a bucket or gas can. “He went the destructive way of, you know, drilling into the gas tank, which isn’t repairable, rather than siphoning,” said Tyler.
Another victim says they saw someone on their Ring home doorbell get into a silver SUV carrying what looked like a gas can. They later learned that person had just taken their gas.
Gas prices are currently moving up to almost $4 a gallon. Police are investigating the crimes. No suspects have been identified.
