During a recent podcast interview with 205 Boyz, Carlee Russell’s ex-boyfriend, Thomar Latrell Simmons, opened up about his ex’s staged abduction and how their “little argument” was “nothing to kidnap yourself over.”
Simmons is convinced that nothing in their relationship could have compelled Russell to do such a bizarre hoax.
Earlier this year, Russell was reported missing shortly after she called 911 to report finding a toddler on an Alabama highway.
Upon police arrival, she disappeared, leaving behind her red Mercedes-Benz, cell phone, and wig. After two days, she re-emerged at her parent’s residence, asserting that she had been abducted and held against her will, though her story eventually unraveled.
Simmons, 25, stated he didn’t see any change in her behavior before her voluntary disappearance.
“I mean, we had a little argument, but it wasn’t nothing to kidnap yourself over,” he said with a chuckle.
According to Simmons, the pair had an enjoyable trip to New York City just two weeks before the staged abduction.
“We were having fun,” he said. “We were going and taking tours to the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge.”
“I’m confused, like what happened?” he said at one point. “What made you do this? I don’t understand.”
Russell, represented by her attorney, subsequently confessed that there had been no abduction or child on the roadside. The nursing student is now facing charges of making a false report to law enforcement and falsely reporting an incident.
After the truth emerged, Simmons was surprised that Russell had orchestrated the incident and believed she could have been truthful with him before officials exposed it.
“I was mad,” he said, noting he’s still trying to cope and heal. “I was sad. I was in all types of emotions.”
He added, “We haven’t had no contact with each other.”
