Cedric the Entertainer recently appeared on “The Domenick Nati” show, where he touched on whether or not Dave Chappelle is “uncancelable.”
Chappelle has faced a lot of backlash in the wake of his Netflix comedy special, The Closer. Host Domenick Nati asked Cedric if he felt that Chappelle was “uncancelable.”
“Once you feel you’re ‘uncancelable,’ or if you think that’s what you’re fighting for, that’s the wrong approach to take… to saying something that you really want to say,” Cedric responded.
Cedric feels like Chappelle’s attitude isn’t helping his case. He continued, “Not in the sense that, ‘Can’t nobody cancel me, so I’m gonna say what I want to say.’ You can find out people will cancel your ass.”
When Nati stated that the person to cancel the comedian would be himself, Cedric agreed.
“That’s my point,” Cedric agreed. “He will end up canceling himself if he feels like nobody can cancel him. That’s what happens. You end up getting in people’s heads in a way where they turn you off.”
He went on to say that when you start believing that you’re “you’re bigger and better than everybody,” that attitude will turn people off.
The fallout from Chappelle’s The Closer has come with its share of consequences for the comedian. He has been uninvited to film festivals, his former high school canceled a scheduled ceremony meant to honor him, and he had trouble finding distribution for his Untitled documentary.
However, Netflix has stuck by the embattled comedian, scheduling him to perform at the Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival event in April.
