The death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas is now being investigated as a homicide, with the LAPD correcting misinformation and sealing key evidence. Her body was discovered on September 8 inside a black bag in the trunk of a Tesla registered to singer D4vd. The vehicle had been abandoned for weeks before being towed to a Hollywood lot.
Her remains, weighing 71 pounds, were heavily decomposed. Authorities identified her in part by a small “Shhh” tattoo on one finger. Police believe she may have died months earlier and suspect that multiple people could have been involved in disposing of her body.
After graphic rumors spread online, LAPD Captain Scot Williams clarified the condition of her remains.
“Celeste’s body was not frozen,” Williams told People. “She was not decapitated. The whole frozen thing doesn’t even make sense. Her body was in the car for weeks.”
Williams continues, “Even if she had been frozen solid when she was put in the car (which there is NO evidence to suggest she was), five or more weeks in the trunk of a car in sweltering heat in the middle of summer would not have resulted in a partially frozen body being discovered on September 8th.”
Detectives have now officially classified the case as a murder. Detective Joshua Byers from the Robbery Homicide Division filed a declaration requesting that Celeste’s autopsy remain sealed. He explained that making the findings public “will reveal or tend to reveal the ongoing investigation and the integrity of the investigation as well as the identity of witnesses and or informants who are cooperating with law enforcement and the content of the information they have provided, which could endanger the lives of witnesses and or compromise the investigation.” Judge Craig Richman approved the request and ordered the autopsy to remain confidential.
Meanwhile, social media has reignited public interest after old Discord messages allegedly from D4vd resurfaced. In one message, he said, “I used to be addicted to watching gore vids.” He added, “I remember laughing at one point it got bad man,” and explained it began after watching an execution video at age 14, saying, “I use it to desensitize myself.”
Despite his car being tied to the case, D4vd has not been charged, and police have not confirmed whether the online messages are part of the investigation. The LAPD continues to guard the details closely.
