Chaka Khan isn’t too happy about her ranking on Rolling Stone’s “200 Best Singers Of All Time” list.
In a recent interview for “The Originals” podcast, the 69-year-old singer expressed her opinions on the January 2023 list. Initially, Khan didn’t know the list existed but learned about it from the host, Andrew Goldman.
“I didn’t even know what the hell you were talking about, so obviously this don’t mean a great deal to me,” Khan said. “These people don’t quantify or validate me in any way.”
Khan came in at No. 29 on the list but wasn’t too pleased about it. In addition, the singer shared harsh words about other singers who ranked higher than her, including Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige.
“That must be payola or some sh*t like that,” she said about Carey’s No. 5 spot.
Blige was placed at No. 25 and Khan believed the publication was “They are blind as a motherfuc*ing bat! They need hearing aids…These must be the children of Helen Keller!”
Khan also said Blige “f*cked up” Rufus & Chaka Khan song “Sweet Thing” single. Blige covered the track and featured it on her 1992 debuted album.
“I told her her vocals were flat,” Khan said.
Despite saying “I quit” after hearing Adele ranked at the No. 22, Khan did agree that the late singer Aretha Franklin deserved the No. 1 spot.
“As she f*cking should be,” Khan said.
