Ludacris’s longtime manager, Chaka Zulu, was arrested on murder charges.

On June 26th, Chaka was one of three people shot in an altercation at a shopping center parking lot outside of his Buckhead restaurant. One of the shooting victims was rushed to the hospital, while 23-year-old Artez Benton died at the scene.

According to police, the shooting occurred after a fight broke out between Chaka and others.

The manager’s lawyer claims that four people jumped Chaka. He adds that Chaka was only protecting himself from suspects who repeatedly attacked him while in a “defenseless posture.”

Chaka turned himself in on Tuesday and was charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and simple battery. However, he posted $200,000 and bonded himself out the same day.

It hasn’t been revealed when Chaka will appear in court but the 23-year-old’s family wants answers.

“We just want justice for Artez,” Arteria Benton, older sister of Artez said.

Chaka is the founder of the independent record label “Disturbing Tha Peace Records.” Chaka created the label in 1998 with the help of his brother Jeff Dixon and Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges.

Chakra’s mission for the label was to give Atlanta artists an opportunity to expand their brand without the pressure from major labels. Ludacris was the first artist to sign to the label.
