Willie Gay, a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, was arrested on Wednesday night, just four days before the team’s playoff game.
The 23-year-old was arrested by the Overland Park Police Department in Kansas about 10:30 p.m. and was charged two hours later with criminal damage.
According to Gay’s rep, Maxx Lepselter, he was arrested after he broke a vacuum during an argument with his child’s mother.
“Willie was at his son’s house visiting,” Lepselter said in a statement Thursday morning. “He and the mother got into an argument during which he broke her vacuum.”
Lepselter insisted that the altercation did not turn physical, “No one was touched, nothing happened beyond broken appliance.”
He said, “She called cops about it and they took him in on misdemeanor destruction of property of less than $1,000.”
According to TMZ Sports, Lepselter expects a swift resolution of the case, and for Gay to be released by this afternoon.
“He will likely just pay a fine and replace a vacuum. Nothing more, all should be resolved today with no further issues,” he said.
Jail records show that Gay is still in custody and he has a court date set for later today.
