Former NBA player Chris Bosh has had it with the NFL‘s lack of Black coaches.
In his latest newsletter, the two-time NBA champion announced he’s boycotting the NFL, citing his frustration with the way Black head coaches are treated in the league, calling it discrimination.
“Watching the way the NFL is treating Black coaches has me pissed off,” Bosh said. “Plain and simple. Until they fix this, I cannot keep spending my weekends supporting the league.”

Bosh called out the league for the recent firings of Brian Flores in Miami and David Culley in Houston despite their commendable work this past season. Flores turned the Miami Dolphins around from 1-7 to 9-8 in two months. Culley was let go despite winning the same number of games in 2021 with a rookie QB that his predecessor had with Deshaun Watson.
“If Flores or Culley had been white, do you really think they’d have been fired after this season? I don’t.” Bosh said.
“Plain and simple: while Black coaches are fired for making the most out of a bad hand, multiple seasons of below-average performance won’t stop a white coach from being praised,” Bosh said.
The Steelers’ Mike Tomlin is now the league’s only Black head coach in the NFL.
Bosh said he’s done spending his Sundays watching the NFL until things change.
“I want to be able to watch the Super Bowl next to my kids, knowing they’ll see people who look like them on the field and the sidelines. I want them to know that the next great strategic mind might belong to a coach who isn’t necessarily white. Because I know they’re out there, future Belichicks and Lombardis and Maddens who happen to not be white men. Football needs to promote those who have proved themselves—and keep them around,” Bosh ended his newsletter.
