The “Level Up” singer recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and opened up about their first date, which confirmed her connection with the NFL star was meant to be. While reminiscing, Ciara, 38, couldn’t help but gush about how she immediately knew Wilson, the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, was her future husband.
“When you know, you know,” Ciara said with a smile. “From the moment we sat down, we got lost in conversation, so much so that we completely forgot to eat!” That undeniable chemistry was the start of something special for the couple, who first met in 2015.
After that first date, Ciara and Wilson couldn’t stop thinking about each other. In fact, the couple has shared their post-date confessions over the years. “He told his friend right after we left, ‘She’s the one,’” Ciara revealed. And the feeling was mutual—Ciara wasted no time calling her best friend Yolie to share the exciting news. “I told her, ‘I don’t want to jinx anything, but…’ And before I could even finish, she asked, ‘He’s the one?’ And I just said, ‘Yes!’”
Ciara had previously been engaged to rapper Future, with whom she shares her son Future Zahir. However, she felt confident about the new chapter unfolding with Russell. After that initial date, she introduced Wilson to her son and father on the same day. The meeting solidified what Ciara already knew—that Wilson was the perfect match for her and her family.
“We were all together in the house, my dad in the living room, and Future was crawling on the floor,” Ciara recalled. But it was a small moment that really captured her attention. “There was a silver chair about to fall in the kitchen, and Russell just slid across the room so smoothly and caught it. It was so sexy, but also so sweet,” she added, laughing. “In that moment, I knew—this man is something special.”
Since tying the knot in 2016, Ciara and Russell Wilson have continued to show the world what true partnership looks like. Now parents to three children—Sienna, Win, and Amora—the couple balances their high-profile careers with family life.
