The Los Angeles Police Department received a call at 2:03 p.m. reporting a disturbance involving a customer at the CarMax on La Cienega Boulevard. According to CarMax, the customer was having his vehicle appraised before the incident, though officials have not disclosed further details.
LAPD stated that after leaving the building, the customer got into his car and deliberately drove into the dealership, hitting employees and customers.
“This afternoon, a customer drove through our Inglewood, California store, hitting and injuring several associates and customers who are receiving care at the hospital at this time,” CarMax said in a statement.
The suspect attempted to flee but was quickly arrested by LAPD at a nearby location. Police confirmed he is now in the custody of Inglewood PD, though his identity has not been released.
L.A. County Fire initially received reports of an active shooter but later upgraded the call to a “vehicle into a structure.” Emergency crews arrived at 2:10 p.m. and transported two critically injured patients to the hospital, while others with minor injuries were treated on-site.
“We appreciate the authorities’ swift response to this terrible event,” CarMax said, emphasizing that “the safety of our associates, community, and customers is our top priority.”
The company is working closely with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
