On July 16, tragedy struck in Northeast D.C. after a group of four masked men opened fire on a large crowd, leaving a 10-year-old girl dead and four others injured.
The incident occurred in the 300 block of 53rd street around 8 p.m. when a black Infiniti sedan pulled into a courtyard and began firing in serval directions before fleeing the scene.
A surveillance camera in the area captured the entire incident that left 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson with a fatal shot to the chest. Though officials attempted to resuscitate her with CPR before she was transported to a local hospital, the rising fifth-grader was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Four adults were also injured, as 50 to 70 shots were fired in the incident. However, officials are still looking to locate the four suspects.

As a result, officials have increased the reward to $45k for any information in the shooting death of the young girl.

“I think the investigation is progressing in a very positive way,” D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said, as he spoke alongside May Muriel Bowser. “We are going to do everything that is in our power to find those people and hold them accountable.”
