A Dallas ICE detention center shooting has left the city shaken after a gunman opened fire from an elevated position early Wednesday, killing two detainees and critically injuring a third. The shooter, later identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the scene.
According to federal officials, Jahn took aim from a rooftop near the facility’s sally port, firing several rounds into the area where detainees were being transferred. The FBI confirmed that one shell casing found nearby had the phrase “ANTI-ICE” scrawled across it, suggesting the attack was politically motivated.
No law enforcement personnel were harmed in the attack. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. Jahn, a Texas native with a prior felony drug conviction, had no clear history of political extremism. His brother, Noah, said he was unaware of any strong political beliefs and described Joshua as someone who “wasn’t interested in politics.”
Witnesses described a terrifying scene. One woman said she was hiding under her car with her child, while another feared for her mother’s safety inside the building. Law enforcement arrived quickly, and those inside the facility were ushered to safety.
The incident has reignited political tensions. Several Republican leaders blamed divisive rhetoric for fueling hostility against immigration authorities. Homeland Security officials are now looking into whether Jahn acted alone or if anyone else was involved in planning the attack.
