Just last week we reported a story of a woman who died after she and her mother traveled to Queens to get butt injections out of a basement apartment. Unfortunately, these injections have claimed yet another life.
34 year old Wykeisha Reid died in February after visiting a Deep Ellum salon that performs eyelash extensions for black market enhancements. Denise “Wee Wee” Ross, 43, and Jimmy “Alicia” Clarke, 31, were charged in her death. They had already been arrested in 2010 for practicing medicine without a license after they administered injections to a woman and her right buttocks became infected, requiring surgery. They were never prosecuted for the 2010 event. Maybe if they were, Reid would be alive today. “They should’ve locked her up then and they didn’t,” said Patricia Kelley, 70, who raised Wykesha Reid, “If they had, this wouldn’t have happened. My baby would still be alive.”
Wykesha Reid went to the salon around 5:30pm to receive the injections. Reid, who worked at a nursing home, had gone there the previous afternoon to buy her fourth round of buttocks injections, her family said. The procedure ranges from $300 to $500 for injections of a saline solution sealed with superglue and cotton balls. Sessions usually last 15 minutes to 45 minutes but during Reid’s session, Clarke claims she complained that she was not feeling well and needed to lay down. Clarke said she locked Reid in the business overnight and when she returned in the morning, she was found by Jimmy Joe Clarke, also known as “Alicia,” who lives as a transgender woman. Upon finding the body at 7:50 a.m., Clarke called 911. She tells detectives she does not know what happened.
At the scene, detectives found Reid laying on her back on top of a massage table with her pants partially pulled down and bloody gauze on her buttocks.
Detectives then located a witness who said at 1:11 a.m. on February 19, the day Wykesha Reid was found dead, he witnessed a pickup truck driving erratically before parking next to the curb. The truck he described was Wykesha Reid’s. The driver was identified as Clarke, who the witness picked from a line-up.
Reid’s death was ruled a homicide and both Clarke and Denise “Wee Wee” Ross were arrested. They both have posted bail and been released.
