“That ’70s Show” actor Danny Masterson will spend the next 30 years behind bars for raping several women.
The sentence concludes the criminal case, which resulted in Masterson being convicted of two counts of forcible rape, according to Variety. A jury found Masterson guilty back in May but declined to convict him of the third count, which was brought forth by his ex-girlfriend, who accused him of raping her in November 2001. The rapes reportedly occurred in his Hollywood Hills, California residence between 2001 and 2003 while he was still on “That 70’s Show.” Once the accusations came to light several years later, he was dropped from several projects, including the 2016 Netflix series, “The Ranch,” which wrote his character off. His lawyers are already planning an appeal on the judgment, claiming several mistakes were made regarding the disgraced star.
“The errors which occurred in this case are substantial, and unfortunately led to verdicts which are not supported by evidence,” said lawyer Shawn Holley outside the Los Angeles courtroom.
Masterson was previously tried in November 2022. However, the jury couldn’t agree on whether or not he’d assaulted the victims. The case was retried in April 2023. All three of his accusers slammed the Church of Scientology for helping Masterson get away with the crimes, as he was a lifelong member. They stated that after reporting his behavior in the church, they were convinced not to report him to authorities. One of the victims, who remains unidentified, had strong words for Masterson in court.
“You are pathetic, disturbed, and extremely violent. The world is safer with you behind bars,” she stated.
Masterson did not utter a word during Thursday’s sentencing.
