Darius McCrary, best known for his adored role as Eddie Winslow on “Family Matters,” is on his way to Michigan following his recent incarceration in California.
A representative for McCrary, Ann Barlow, confirmed to TMZ that the actor was extradited on Wednesday morning after spending several weeks in a San Diego jail. “I was caught off guard by the release,” Barlow said, explaining that she wasn’t informed beforehand and has no idea whether he’s traveling by plane or bus.
The actor’s legal troubles escalated after he failed to appear in a Michigan court over unpaid child support. The missed court date triggered a warrant for his arrest, and McCrary was detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection while entering the country from Mexico earlier this month.
His arrest led to a prolonged stay in jail, during which he attended a court hearing representing himself. Observers noted McCrary appeared confused as he attempted to navigate the legal proceedings without counsel.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether he has arrived in Michigan. His transfer is expected to bring him back before a judge in Oakland County to address the outstanding child support issue.
McCrary’s ongoing legal troubles add another chapter to his turbulent personal journey. While his breakout role in the 1990s made him a household name, recent years have seen him entangled in a series of legal and financial issues.
