Dave Chappelle joked about DaBaby‘s homophobic rant not being as offensive as the rapper allegedly killing someone during his new stand-up.
Earlier this year, DaBaby was shunned by society after making homophobic comments about the LGTBTQIA+ community during one of his concerts.
“If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” DaBaby said to the audience. “Ladies, if your p—- smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking d— in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”
The rapper ended up losing multiple appearances and performance deals after the ordeal. After some time, the rapper apologized for his words in a statement.
“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless,” his apology statement read, which at some point was removed from his Instagram account, Billboard reports.
The entire situation turned into a bit for Chappelle’s latest Netflix comedy special, “The Closer.”
“A lot of the LGBTQ community doesn’t know DaBaby’s history. He once shot a n***a and killed him in Walmart,” Chappelle. “Nothing happened to his career. In our country, you can shoot and kill a n***a but you bet not hurt a gay person’s feelings.”
It didn’t long for Chappelle to become a trending topic online, with some calling him out for missing certain points regarding the struggles and existence of the Black gay community. “I hate that Dave Chappelle talks about the disparities between the gay struggle and black struggle like black gay people just… don’t exist,” said one Twitter user.
