Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was injured in a shooting early Friday morning, October 18th, after leaving a Denver strip club.
According to court documents, Reynolds and two others were followed from Shotgun Willies in Glendale. At around 3 a.m., the first 911 caller, driving a blue Ford Bronco, reported being shot and sounded as if he was fleeing, according to 9NEWS. Another caller reported being followed and needing an ambulance for two friends who had been shot. GPS tracking placed all three callers near South Quebec Street and East Union Avenue.
Police found Reynolds with wounds to his left arm and a graze wound in the back of his head. Another man was shot in the back, while a third sustained injuries from shattered glass. The victims’ vehicle, found on Interstate 25, had multiple bullet holes, and cartridge casings were recovered nearby. The Broncos released a statement, noting Reynolds was treated for minor injuries, and the team is offering him support.
Before the shooting, the victims left the strip club without incident around 2:45 a.m. They noticed vehicles tailing them as they entered the highway, with gunfire erupting as they tried to evade. Denver Police later arrested Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza. Surveillance footage showed Mendoza entering the club after midnight, reportedly watching the victims without engaging with anyone. Multiple vehicles, including Mendoza’s, followed the victims after they left.
Charlesworth claimed he was “helping” a friend resolve a past conflict, denying involvement in the shooting. Reynolds, who was on injured reserve for a fractured finger, has been watching practices with the team. His recent injuries aren’t expected to delay his return, as he appears to be healing well.
