On Saturday, actor Denzel Washington took a monumental step in his spiritual journey after publicly dedicating his life to Christ.
The moment took place at Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) located in New York City. In addition to being baptized, the day also marked Washington’s official receipt of a ministry license.
“If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit,” he told the congregation.
He continued, “This world and its fame & riches will fade away, but only what you do for CHRIST will LAST!!!!”

Washington’s faith has been the guiding force in his life for quite some time now. Since his childhood, Washington was rooted in Christianity, especially since his father was a Pentecostal minister. While the actor attended church regularly as a child, it was his growing spirituality that matured over the years that kept him afloat. Although Washington is a devoted member of the West Angeles Church of God In Christ in Los Angeles, his latest venture represents what he calls his “greatest accomplishment.”
Outside of his recent baptism, Washington also made headlines last week after accidentally revealing that he will be involved in “Black Panther 3.” During an interview, the high-profile Hollywood star shared that he is in collaboration with director Ryan Coogler before backtracking his statement. Laughing off the slipup, Washington said that he called the director to apologize.
