Diane Keaton, a Hollywood legend whose style and spirit captivated audiences for decades, passed away days ago at the age of 79 on October 11th. Her family has now confirmed she died from pneumonia.
In an emotional statement to PEOPLE, the Keaton family expressed appreciation for the outpouring of love.
The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11.
Known for her compassion off-screen, Keaton was deeply committed to supporting the homeless and caring for animals. Her family added, “She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her.
Keaton began her rise to fame with unforgettable roles in “The Godfather” franchise and “Annie Hall,” the latter earning her an Academy Award. She continued to shine in hits like “The First Wives Club,” “Something’s Gotta Give,” and “Book Club,” and took on directing projects including the documentary “Heaven.
The actress never married but adopted two children, Dexter and Duke.
