Sean “Diddy” Combs and Revolt TV are making sure that we all do our part this election with the relaunch of the “Vote or Die!” campaign for the 2020 presidential election.
The campaign was initially launched back in 2004 ahead of the presidential election between then-candidates George Bush and John Kerry. The objective was to make voting appeal to youth minorities. The 2020 version aims to target the youth once again to ensure that they realize that their voices are even more critical this time around.
“When you talk to youth in Gen Y and Gen Z, it is clear they feel the older generations have failed them in a lot of ways. Whether it be our nation’s current stance on police brutality, systemic racism, gun control, climate change, or LGBTQ rights, the younger generation wants change. Vote or Die is here to remind them that issues related to their survival will be determined by the people they put in office this election season.” Revolt TV chief operating officer Detavio Samuels said in a statement.
This year’s initiative presented its first town hall on September 24th called “State of Emergency: Election Day and Black America,” hosted by Eboni K. Williams. The roundtable featured multiple speakers, including actress Kerry Washington and Dr. Cornel West. Revolt kept the momentum going by releasing a series focusing on black Americans’ voter suppression the following month. The “Views From the Youth” study is even more fascinating, which is quarterly data that will provide insight into why Gen Z is not voting.
Diddy will also tap entertainers to rock “Vote or Die!” merch much as he did with the 2004 campaign. During this year’s Revolt Summit, which will run between October 23rd and 25th, audience members will be provided vital tools to vote in this year’s election. There will also be an election-themed panel, much like that of last year.
