Sony Pictures’ ‘Men in Black’ is coming back for a spin-off film, and F. Gary Gray may be the director of it.
According to Variety, the film began development last year, with Matt Holloway and Art Marcum set to pen the script and the premiere date being slated for May 17th, 2019. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

However, this time around, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not reprise their leading roles as Agent J and Agent K. Instead, the famed studio will be launching a whole new franchise and bringing in completely different characters—and, reportedly, one of the characters may actually be a female.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As of now, details on the project are limited, but we do know that Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will produce, while Steven Spielberg is in place to executive produce.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The original ‘Men in Black’ film—which first debuted in 1997, centered Smith and Jones, who portrayed two agents of a secret organization on a mission to protect the earth from extraterrestrial lifeforms.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since its release, two more sequels have followed, with the last one being in 2012.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’re hopeful that the spin-off will be worth the watch, especially with F. Gary Gray possibly onboard. The 48-year-old is known for directing all-time classics, such as ‘Friday’, ‘Set It Off’, and 2015’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’.
