Disney and Paramount Studios Pledge Millions to Los Angeles in Wildfires Relief Efforts

In the past few days, we have witnessed Los Angeles and its surrounding areas grapple with constant wildfires that left thousands of structures and homes destroyed. Amid the tragedy, many individuals have stepped up to offer assistance to those in need and major studios have joined as well to contribute to the relief efforts.

Recently, Disney announced that the company will be making a significant $15 million donation to assist organizations that working on the frontlines to end the crisis. According to Disney, the funds will be given to groups like the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

“As this tragedy continues to unfold, The Walt Disney Company is committed to supporting our community and our employees as we all work together to recover and rebuild from this unbelievable devastation,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said. “Walt Disney came to Los Angeles with little more than his limitless imagination, and it was here that he chose to make his home, pursue his dreams, and create extraordinary storytelling that means so much to so many people around the world. We are proud to provide assistance to this resilient and vibrant community in this moment of need.”

Additionally, Paramount also followed suit and made a $1 million contribution to multiple relief organizations including the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, Direct Relief, and World Central Kitchen.

“Our hearts are with everyone affected by this tragedy, particularly those who have been displaced or lost their homes. And we remain committed to supporting our employees who have been impacted during this incredibly difficult time,” Paramount’s leadership team said in a statement.

Outside of its $1 million donation, Paramount has also used its various platforms to drive contributions with CBS airing Red Cross public service announcements and local station KCAL raising over $300,000 for relief. Paramount has also provided meals for the first responders who are on the frontline of the wildfires.

Nonetheless, federal assistance for L.A. residents has already begun flowing after President Joe Biden declared the wildfires a major disaster. California Governor Gavin Newsom also declared a state of emergency and started to offer resources to impacted communities.
