Donald Trump is turning up the heat on China, threatening a massive increase in tariffs as part of an intensifying trade conflict. Speaking just days before a key deadline, Trump warned that if China does not roll back its recently announced 34% retaliatory tariff by April 8, 2025, the United States will respond with an additional 50% tariff on Chinese imports, bringing the total tariff rate to a staggering 104%.

In a detailed statement posted on social media, Trump accused China of long-term trade manipulation and unfair practices, including currency manipulation, illegal subsidization of companies, and record-setting non-monetary tariffs. He emphasized that this latest retaliatory move by China comes despite previous warnings and would not go unanswered.
“Any country that retaliates against the U.S. with additional tariffs will be met with new and substantially higher tariffs,” Trump stated. “If China does not withdraw its 34% increase by April 8th, we will impose additional tariffs effective April 9.”
In addition to the tariff threat, Trump announced that all ongoing talks with Chinese officials would be immediately suspended. He confirmed that meetings with other countries interested in trade agreements would move forward instead.
With the April 8 deadline fast approaching, the next move belongs to China. The world is watching to see how Beijing responds to one of the most significant tariff threats in recent memory.
