Dr. Dre can finally add the Forbes list to his illustrious resume.
Nearly twelve years after declaring himself hip-hop’s first billionaire, the legendary producer and business mogul has officially reached the milestone. According to the newly released Forbes 2026 Billionaires list, Dre’s fortune now crosses the billion-dollar mark, validating the bold claim he made back in 2014 following Apple’s massive acquisition of Beats by Dre.
At the time, Dre celebrated the $3 billion deal with Jimmy Iovine by posting a now-famous message. “They need to update the Forbes list, s**t just changed,” he said shortly after Apple finalized the purchase, which later folded the Beats brand into Apple Music.
More than a decade later, the numbers have caught up with the moment.
Forbes places Dre among the world’s wealthiest individuals, though the ranking shows just how crowded the billionaire club has become. Dre currently sits tied at No. 3332 globally alongside several other billionaires, including Jared Kushner, Rihanna, and steel executive Richard Teets Jr.
Still, the distinction carries weight. According to Forbes, Dre joins “an elite group of celebrities who have recently crossed the three-comma threshold.” Out of the 22 billionaire entertainers the publication has identified, nearly half have been added within the last three years. Dre also becomes just the sixth musician to earn billionaire status, joining Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, and Rihanna.
The broader billionaire boom continues to accelerate. “It’s the year of the billionaire,” said Forbes senior editor Chase Peterson-Withorn. “The planet added more than one billionaire per day over the past twelve months as the AI-powered stock market boom boosted fortunes to previously unimaginable heights.”
At the top of the list sits Elon Musk, whose estimated $839 billion fortune makes him the richest person ever recorded by Forbes.
