Dr. Dre speaks out on his journey after suffering a brain aneurysm.
During an interview with James Corden on SiriusXM’s “This Life of Mine,” the hip-hop music mogul recounted experiencing “three strokes” while hospitalized for his brain aneurysm in 2021. Dre detailed how his condition deteriorated significantly after being hospitalized due to pain behind his right ear.
“I got up and I went on about my day, and I thought that I could just lay down and take a nap. My son had a female friend that was there and was like, ‘No, we need to take you to the hospital. Next thing you know, Iām blacking out. Iām in and out of consciousness and I ended up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks,” the famed rapper/producer said. “Iām hearing the doctors coming in and ‘You donāt know how lucky you are.'”
Dre also revealed that he experienced three strokes within that two-week period. Additionally, he was informed that he had high blood pressure, which caught him off guard as he had been maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
“Iām lifting weights, Iām running, Iām doing everything I can to keep myself healthy,” he added. “I said, āWould that have prevented it if I had worked out a little bit harder or ate different or something like that?ā Itās like, no. Thatās hereditary.”
Nevertheless, despite the hurdles he had to cross, Dre says the health scare gave him a new outlook on life.
“When you go through that situation, itās crazy especially when I was on my way home from the hospital because possibly, that couldnāt have happened,” Dre said. “I don’t know. Itās crazy, so now knowing that I had no control over that. Itās just something that could happen out of the blue.”
