As the murder trial for rapper XXXTentacion continues, Drake is off the hook and will not be required to sit for a deposition.
On Friday, a judge ruled that defense attorneys will not depose Drake due to lack of evidence. The decision comes just a few days after a defense attorney claimed process servers were turned down by armed guards at the rapper’s mansion, while trying to serve him with a subpoena.
Mauricio Padilla, an attorney for suspect Dedrick Williams, sought out the deposition and suggested Drake was involved with XXXTentacion’s murder.
To add to his argument, Padilla mentioned an alleged feud between Drake and XXXTentacion. Padilla referenced a past social media post, where XXXTentacion said if he’s killed, it’s because of Drake. However, the post was quickly deleted.
“If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi. I’m snitching right now,” XXXTentacion wrote in 2018.
Nevertheless, Drake’s attorneys have maintained his innocence saying he is not responsible for XXXTentacion’s death.
“At this point, I think you have a corroborating witness who corroborates that Mr. Graham has nothing to do with this case,” Bradford Cohen, Drake’s lawyer, previously said.
Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright, and Trayvon Newsome are currently on trial for the late rapper’s murder. If they are convicted of first-degree murder, the three men could each face life sentences. Last August, Robert Allen pleaded guilty to his involvement in the crime.
