One of Disney affiliate ESPN’s top talents, insider Adrian Wojnarowski, shocked the sports world by announcing his retirement this morning. The Hartford native walked away from a $20 million deal, according to The Athletic.

In a detailed statement, Wojnarowski revealed he will be joining his alma mater, St. Bonaventure University, as the General Manager.

“I grew up the son of a factory worker two miles from ESPN’s campus and only ever dreamed of making a living as a sportswriter,” Woj said in his statement. “Thirty-seven years ago, the Hartford Courant gave me my first byline and I never stopped chasing the thrill of it all.”

At 55 years old the nonstop grind has taken a toll on Woj and within his statement you could tell that he was ready to move on.

“The past seven years at ESPN have been a particular privilege. I’m appreciative of the company’s leadership – especially Jimmy Pitaro and Cristina Daglas – for the understanding and acceptance of my decision to make a life change.”

A journalistic legend has turned over a new leaf while still immersing himself in the world of sports. A legendary career that will always be remembered.
