An ex-police officer is accused of impersonating a federal agent to commit an armed robbery.
The incident unfolded on May 28th when officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department in North Carolina responded to an armed robbery at an address on Shady Hollow Lane. Seven victims were in the house at the time and reported that two men posing as federal authorities forced their way into the home. The fake FBI agents restrained the occupants before making off with guns, jewelry, and cash.
Investigators later identified former highway patrol trooper and Lexington police officer 41-year-old Freddie Wayne Huff II and his accomplice, 27-year-old Rahain Antoine Deriggs, as the suspects. Both men were found at a residence in Davidson County with the reported stolen items from the robbery.
Huff was previously terminated from the highway patrol after an internal affairs investigation found that he was selling state-issued footwear on eBay.
Both men have been hit with seven counts of felony kidnapping, felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, and misdemeanor impersonating a law enforcement officer. Huff was granted a $700,000 secured bond while Deriggs bond was set at $850,000.
