On Tuesday, a forensic expert took the stand in Nicki Minaj’s brother’s child rape case to testify about the DNA found on the then-11-year-old’s pajama pants.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Page Six, Erika Ziemak said there was “less than 1 in 348 billion chance” that the DNA found on the clothing belonged to someone other than Jelani Maraj.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Jelani Maraj’s DNA profile is consistent with [the stain] on the pajama pants,” Ziemak said, just one day after the victim’s 10-year-old brother told the jury that he accidently walked in on Maraj assaulting his sister. However, according to Daily News, Ziemak, who once worked at the Nassau County medical examiner’s office, said that she couldn’t be sure Maraj was the actual DNA donor.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ziemak testified that she found a “mixture” of DNA on the victim’s pajamas when they were sent to the lab back in 2015. Although there was male DNA found, she said she could not conclude that it belonged to Maraj.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Since the start of the trial, there has been much back and forth between the media and the defense. Initially, Maraj’s attorney told reporters that his sister would be the star witness in the case. However, the rapper’s team refuted those claims, saying she never had plans to testify at all. Therefore, the details of the case remain unclear.
