Attorney Ben Crump announced that Tyre Nichols‘ family is seeking more than $500M over his fatal beating by Memphis police officers.
According to TMZ, Tyre’s family is comparing his death to the historical 1955 murder of Emmett Till, claiming that Tyre was beaten by the “hands of a modern-day lynch mob.”
The City of Memphis, Police Chief Cerelyn Davis, and the officers responsible for the vicious beating of Tyre have all been named in the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, Tyre’s death was a “direct and foreseeable product of the unconstitutional policies, practices, customs, and deliberate indifference” from Memphis and its police chief.
In addition, the family is looking to sue three Memphis Fire Department employees who allegedly failed to assist Tyre and a sixth officer who was fired but not charged.
In January, it was reported that Tyre died three days after being brutally beaten by five Memphis officers.
