Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is standing firm on the results of the highly publicized Young Slime Life (YSL) trial. Despite zero murder convictions after three years and 28 defendants, Willis told reporters she believes the case was a clear success.

“My message to taxpayers is: it was an amazing time,” Willis said at a press conference, according to 11Alive. “We had 19 convictions, the community is safer.”
Willis acknowledged public disappointment over sentencing outcomes but pointed to the court system as the final decision-maker. “We made sure that we got the resolutions we wanted,” she said. “If they’re unhappy with sentencing, they should elect other judges.”
One of the final defendants, Demise McMullen, recently pled guilty to aggravated assault, marking yet another shift away from the original murder charges. Only one defendant remains: Christian Eppinger, accused of shooting an Atlanta police officer six times in 2022.
Young Thug, the most high-profile name in the case, was initially hit with eight charges but accepted a plea deal in October, resulting in probation.
The last remaining murder charge linked to Shymel Drinks’ 2022 death was dropped after Damekion Garlington entered an Alford Plea. He was sentenced to five years in prison after prosecutors agreed to reduce the murder charge to aggravated assault and drop the attempted murder count.
Though prosecutors sought harsher sentences, most convicted defendants received short prison terms paired with extended probation.
