Kevin Durant is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA; however, the antics from fans and some discord from Durant have often made him a villain throughout the second half of his career. This mostly stemmed from Durant leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder and joining the Golden State Warriors during the 2016 NBA offseason, almost making it a foregone conclusion that the Golden State Warriors would steamroll most of the league. They rightfully did, winning two championships and two finals MVPs in consecutive years.
Since then, Durant has had stops in Brooklyn, and now he is in Phoenix looking for his third ring. SHe recently surpassed Carmelo Anthony on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, moving into ninth place with 28,544 points. Currently sitting at 28,544 points and 15 straight seasons averaging 25 points, only LeBron James has a longer streak(20). Durant’s teammate Devin Booker joined J.J. Reddick on his podcast The Old Man and The Three, where he spoke about Durant’s greatness. JJ believes fans will sit back once Durant retires and wonder why they gave him such a hard time.
“I think whatever happens for the rest of Kevin Durant’s career, we’re going to look back in like 10 or 15 years and be like, ‘Why the f*ck did we spend all this time with all the bullsh*t discourse and not just appreciate literally one of the greatest basketball players to every play this game?'”
Unfortunately, NBA Twitter is filled with trolls and people who can say whatever they want without consequences. As a result, there is often more emotion than thought put into discussions about Durant’s career.
Durant, 35, is averaging 28.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.5 assists through 58 games this season. He’s also consistently shot over 50% from the field over the course of his career, checking in at 52.9% this season. If Durant finishes the season above the 50% mark, it’ll be the 11th consecutive season in which he’s made more than half of his shot attempts.
He is still producing at a high level after two lower leg injuries.
