The FBI is now investigating if Jussie Smollett actually sent the threatening letter to himself.
The plot continues to thicken in Smollett’s case, in which he claims he was brutally attacked and threatened on a homophobic and racist basis. According to a Tuesday report, feds are now looking into whether Jussie Smollett was involved in sending a suspicious letter to himself a week before the alleged attack in Chicago, which is now being questioned by police.
ABC reports the FBI and U.S Postal Inspection Services are investigating the claim by brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo that Smollett played a role in the letter being delivered to Fox’s studio on Jan. 22. The letter featured a stick figure hanging from a tree with the words “You will die black f–k” in cut-out magazine letters on it. The word “MAGA” was also written in red letters across the envelope. The letter is currently at an FBI crime lab for analysis.
While Smollett maintains that he was in fact attacked, the Osundairos brothers told investigators that Smollett is behind the entire operation because he was upset at the lack of attention the threatening letter initially received.
In response to the controversial incident, “Empire” has opted to cut Smollett’s scenes out this season. Five scenes and a musical portion were taken out.
