The Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the “Route 91 Bandit.” The suspect is responsible for robbing 11 banks in New England over the last five months.
The robberies, which first started on September 9, have all taken place along Route 91. The interstate highway stretches all the way from New Haven, Connecticut, to the U.S.-Canada border. In the last five months, the suspect has knocked off banks in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
The suspect is described as white, between 5 foot 6 inches to 5 foot 8 inches tall, with a medium build. He has blue eyes and light hair. The thief usually is dressed in a hood or hat and white sneakers during the heist. He has allegedly threatened to use a firearm. According to CNN, investigators believe he might be driving a recent model Nissan sedan.
The FBI released surveillance video of the bank robber from a November 5 robbery at Workers Credit Union in Athol, Massachusetts. He is dressed in a black “Post University” hooded sweatshirt with the words “No Hall Like Ohall 2016-2017” on the back. The video has no sound but shows him ushering three employees into a back room before he is handed two wads of cash. He then exits through the front door.
“In the interest of public safety, we’re asking anyone with information about this individual to contact us immediately. We need to put a stop to this man’s crime spree before someone gets hurt,” Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division Joseph R. Bonavolonta said. “He’s considered armed and dangerous, so please take a close look at these images and reach out to us if you know who he is.”
