Tragedy struck on Sunday in North Brunswick after a gunman opened fire at the home of U.S. District Judge of New Jersey Esther Salas.
According to Chief Judge Freda Wolfson, Salas’ son, Daniel Anderl, 20, was shot and killed in the incident, while his father Mark Anderl, was injured. Salas was uninjured.
The FBI and the U.S. Marshals are investigating the shooting. “We are looking for one subject,” the FBI said in a statement. “We are working closely with our state and local partners and will provide additional updates when available.”
According to reports, the incident occurred after Daniel opened the door for what appeared to be a FedEx delivery man. However, with his father right behind him, both men were met with gunfire before the gunman fled the scene.
“We are aware of media reports and are fully cooperating with investigating authorities,” a spokesperson for FedEx said in a statement. However, it remains unclear if the man was an actual employee or a poser. Officials are also unaware of a motive.
